Spun off in 2001 from STX of the former Ssangyong Heavy Industries, which had been the driving force in bringing the Korean shipbuilding industry to the global stage, STX METAL turns out an extensive range of parts for diesel engines like Turbo chargers, cylinder blocks, crankshafts and cargo oil pump elements. The maker¡¯s export mainstays include 4-stroke Turbo chargers.
As a most essential part for high-power internal combustion engines, they consist of a turbine and a compressor on a shared shaft. The turbine converts heat to rotational force, which is in turn used to drive the compressor. The compressor draws in ambient air and pumps it into the intake manifold at increased pressure, resulting in a greater mass of air entering the cylinders on each intake stroke.
The inducted air which is compressed to a density higher than that of ambient air, contributes to burning higher amounts of fuel. The manufacturer has already acquired the EM (Excellent Machinery) mark from the Korean government for its Turbo chargers. With ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications, it has such foreign approvals as DNV, NK, LR and GL.
