Increasingly compact electronic devices have created a need for power
storage solutions that can store large amounts of reserve power in a very
small space. Korchip Corp. has developed the electric double layer
capacitor/super-capacitor (EDLC) as next-generation energy storage that can
store a million times more energy than traditional capacitors.
Korchip¡¯s small-capacity EDLC of less than 1F serve as an auxiliary
power supply for mobile phones, MP3 players, audio devices and VCRs,
preventing data loss and maintaining the built-in Real Time Clock (RTC) in
the unit when power supply is interrupted. Larger capacity EDLC of 10F to
100F, and high-capacity units of 100F to 1000F are widely used for
applications that require peak output, including hybrid engine automobiles, UPS, electrical locomotives and
copying machines. Electric double layer capacitors are also vital components for the renewable energy industry,
and are widely known as super-capacitors or ultra-capacitors.
Founded in 1994, Korchip has been manufacturing various kinds of EDLC products under its STARCAP brand
since 2002.
