There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands, of facial masks in the market. A lot of them are labeled as having some special properties or treatments, but it¡¯s not easy to find a product that I can be sure is safe, reliable and effective. I'm always on the lookout for new facial masks, and recently I had a chance to try out a wonderful new product called "Pure Tree olive oil deep gel mask" by a company called Genic.

When the weather is hot, like now, I take special care to make sure my skin is well rested and hydrated after a long day out in the sun and pollution. I have dry skin so I use facial masks as often as I can to restore moisture and nutrients to my skin.

Each cardboard package contained five masks. The package informed me that these were "emulsion-type gel masks" with emulsions that are designed to restore the balance of nutrients, oil and moisture on the skin. The "hydrogel mask" is a patented technology developed by Genic that responds to skin temperature to bind closely to the skin. These particular masks, the package further told me, included olive oil-extract emulsion that boosts the hydrating power of the gel mask.

I took out one of the masks from its individual plastic packaging and noticed that it had a double x-layer of film, one on each side. The instructions told me to peel the film from each side, and then the mask could be applied to either surface on the skin. I could immediately tell that the mask was different from the cotton masks that I was used to. When you hold a cotton mask in your hands the infusion tends to start running and dripping, which is irritating even after the mask is on the face. The Genic mask, though, felt like a soft gel. As soon as I put the mask on my face, I felt the material cling to every contour of my face. The mask was in two pieces with plenty of overlap, making sure every part of my face is covered. There was a Y-shaped slit on the chin to make it easy to talk and move my mouth while the mask is still on my face, which I thought was a considerate touch.

The gel that formed the mask felt very snug and tight, and I really liked the fact that the mask stayed on my face even when I was walking around or sitting upright watching TV. I left the mask on my face for almost 30 minutes, and I could feel and see that a lot of the material on the gel was gone leaving the matrix behind. My face felt smooth and hydrated, and I could tell that the mask was designed to make sure the ingredients in it are transferred effectively to my skin. The best thing for me though, again, was how comfortable the mask was and how I could move, talk and do everything with the mask on my face without worrying about it dripping or wrinkling up.

Genic is a global company specializing in mask packs. Currently, Genic¡¯s products are available at retail stores such as Walgreen, Target, and CVS in the United States, and BOOTS in England. Genic was selected as the company possessing the top next-generation brand products as certified by Ministry of Knowledge Economy. They also co-branded a business partner with Hi-Seoul in order to attain 30 percent market share in Korea¡¯s mask pack market. Genic¡¯s also manufacturers OEM products for other major domestic cosmetic brands. Genic¡¯s main product is the hydrogel mask pack. The water soluble hydrogel coagulates nutritious substances into a gel format, which differs from the conventional sheet type that is common in the market today. The hydrogel remains tightly fastened on the face and provides more moisture. Hydrogel mask pack delivers active ingredients into the skin by reacting to the skin temperature rather than the air, a technology patented by Genic as the TCD (Trandermal Cosmetic Delivery System).
