Kooksoondang Brewery, established in 1952, is a major producer of Korean wine, such as herbal wine and makkeolli (unrefined rice wine), based on the Korean traditional brewing formula. In 1992, as a result of continuous efforts in R&D, it introduced its major product, ¡°Bekseju.¡±
The excellent taste and health benefits of Bekseju captured the hearts and palates of Korean consumers when it was released. Since then, it has taken up around 70% of market share in the Korean rice wine market. To satisfy the expanding demand for Bekseju, it opened a new factory in Hoengseong, Gangown Province in 2004. The factory has a daily production capacity of 600,000 bottles, and it is renowned for its environmentally friendly facilities.
Bekseju is a herbal wine that is is made from glutinous rice, nuruk (Korean yeast & enzyme) and 12 choicest oriental herbs, including ginseng, ginger, cinnamon, etc. It is perfectly brewed and fermented in a patented and exclusive way based on the traditional Korean wine brewing formula.
