Jangheung Shiitake mushroom is a representative specialty in Jangheung cultivated in a clean and pollution-free regional environment, which is harmonized with clean water from the Tamjin River, Class 1water of the mountain and sea.
It is managed and controlled as a principal production zone of Shiitake mushroom by the Korea Forest Service of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Jangheung is located at the southernmost tip of Korea, and 80% of the forest area consists of hardwood forest including oak, log of Shiitake mushroom. It is therefore easy to supply the hardwood, and the wind containing the humidity rises from clean seas and rivers of our region, which is the best environment to cultivate and grow the highestclass Shiitake mushroom. Jangheung Shiitake mushroom has been cultivated by eco-friendly mushroom culture on logs in the traditional way, a cultivation method under such heaven-blessed natural conditions that can make the product's own unique rich flavor more excellent. The texture is thick and the taste is exceptional and therefore it accounts for 40% of production of dry Shiitake mushroom in the country. Additionally, Jangheung Shiitake mushroom was selected as our agricultural brand celebrity program and acquired international organic certification (JASEU- USDA-NOP) and we are now actively advancing into the overseas export market.
Shiitake contains nutrition essentials we must eat including Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Calcium, Iron, etc as well as protein, and is also good for diet food because of low calorie and rich dietary fiber. In addition, Eritadenine contained in Shiitake mushroom removes cholesterol in the blood and helps lower blood pressure thus helping to prevent adult ailments such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, etc. In particular, Vitamin D contained in Shiitake mushroom strengthens the bones and stimulates the absorption of calcium and phosphorous that helps prevent osteoporosis.
Shiitake is divided into White Hwago, Black Hwago, Dongko, Hyangko and Hayngshin according to the shape, spread state and pattern of the shed varied by many environmental factors such as temperature of day and night, wind, humidity, etc.
