Exports of renewable energy-related equipment used for photovoltaic power generation have increased significantly this year. According to reliable official data based on a complete enumeration survey of 80 domestic exporters in the renewable energy field, the relevant exports doubled from US$1 billion in the first half of 2009 to $2.14 billion in the same period of this year.
By company, Jusung Engineering exported $200 million worth of equipment, while Hyundai Heavy Industry exported $190 million of solar cells and modules, Neo Semitech exported $175 million of ingots and wafers and LG Electronics exported $160 million of cells and modules, thus recording total exports of $1.8billion in the first half of this year.
This year, some of the nation¡¯s enterprises are showing strategic movement in the photovoltaic field. As a good example of this trend, South Korea¡¯s Dongbu Group is transforming into a comprehensive electronics company by diversifying its business portfolio into photovoltaics and LEDs.
The group expects to create synergy in the solar power business as it seeks to make inverters for solar and wind power plants based on technology from the electronics part unit of its affiliate Dongbu CNI.
With the business diversification, Dongbu is becoming a comprehensive electronics company that covers semiconductors, robots, LEDs, solar power, electronics parts and IT services. LG Electronics also plans to adopt its strategy to enhance its photovoltaic business as a solution to overcome the electronics unit¡¯s crisis. LG Electronics started mass producing 250 megawatt (MW) solar cells at two production lines in Gumi, in Korea¡¯s North Gyeongsang province.
The company has a plan to take more aggressive action in the photovoltaic business this year, setting its business goal of becoming one of the leading enterprises in the photovoltaic market by expanding production capacity of its integrated solar cell production system, and increasing synergy effects among related subsidiaries.
Jusung Engineering, a medium-sized representative photovoltaic manufacturer specializing in producing solar cells, semiconductors and display manufacturing equipment has recently concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with its counterpart in Morocco for cooperation in the photovoltaic industry, setting a strategic foothold for the solar cell business in the Africa region.
Morocco, which has plans to supply 42 percent of its total energy through renewable energy by 2020, has a favorable climate and geographical conditions for the supplying of renewable energy, a hopeful sign that the country will generate good business benefits for Jusung Engineering, a holder of world-class photovoltaic technology.
Following a major contract with the U.S. solar cell manufacturing equipment company MEMC Singapore Pte.Ltd (¡°MEMC¡±), which offers a good opportunity for the company to take the lead in the North American region, Jusung Engineering extensively increased its pace toward becoming one of the representative global companies leading the trends of green industries in the world.
