South Korea's LED Lighting Market Shines Brightly

The LED lighting market in the South Korea has been growing significantly thanks to the expansion of the display market, including notebook backlighting, LED backlighting for LCD TVs, etc.
As of 2010, the backlight LED market has been the fastest-growing, recording more than 19,000,000,000 units, which was 300 times higher than the market-scale of 836,000,000 units of LED backlights in 2008. Driven by the growth of LED TV, it comprises nearly 27.8% of the entire LED market.
In line with this industrial trend of growing demand for display backlight and large-sized LED TV, many South Korean manufacturers has been pushing ahead with their aggressive investments in expanding their enlarging LED lines.
Also, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are swiftly adapting to the rapidly changing market environment, almost simultaneously releasing most affordable prices of various kinds of household LED bulbs.
Samsung Electronics has been extending its LED production from backlights to lighting applications with China being the major market, and it likely to shift production of LED lighting products from South Korea to Tianjin, China. The company expects to generate sales revenues of US$30 million from LED lighting products in 2011 and become the largest vendor in 2013, according to industry sources.
Seoul Semiconductor, one of the world¡¯s leading LED manufacturers, has also released two new high-brightness LEDs, the ¡®Z6¡¯ and ¡®Z7¡¯ as part of its Z-series range and unveiled a plan to release one or two new product(s) every month to meet the increasingly diverse customer needs and demands brought about as LEDs proliferate in the general illumination marketplace this year.
