Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (hereinafter called the “HMD”) started as a ship repair yard in 1975 and started its new shipbuilding in 1996. Now the HMD is a global leading shipbuilder of medium-sized vessels with the highest quality.
The HMD has delivered more than 500 ships since 1996. The main products are Product/Chemical Tankers, Container Ships, Bulk Carriers, Multi Purpose Carriers, LPG Carriers, Con/Ro-Ro, Pure Car & Truck Carrier, Drillships, Cable Layers, Pipe Layers, FPSO, Car Ferry & Passenger Ship, etc.
Among them, the Product/Chemical Tanker is an ocean-going Oil Product & Chemical Tanker for the carriage of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) type 2 (or 3) cargoes and the Petroleum products with a bulbous bow, transom stern, flush deck with forecastle, open water type stern frame, single rudder and single screw propeller driven by a slow speed diesel engine. The propulsion machinery and living quarters including navigation bridge are located aft.
The HMD has been acknowledged as one of the leading and most versatile shipbuilders in the sectors of medium-sized conventional ships and specialized vessels. Especially, the HMD has achieved world-wide recognition for its medium-ranged Product/Chemical Tankers and Handy/Panamax size containerships with optimized superior specifications and unchallenged quality gained by the competent design staff and the highly qualified workforce.
Many of its ships are named for the best ship of the year by the Significant Ships, the publication of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, and the HMD has been awarded many export, managerial and industrial relations prizes for the successful
management and industrial relations, quality and technical capability.
