SurgeLAB Korea was founded in 2005 in order to study the effects of natural disasters such as lightning strikes on electronic equipment, a serious concern in an age where electronic devices are ubiquitous.
A corporation was established in 2007 to commercialize and market the fruits of SurgeLAB¡¯s research projects.
SurgeLAB¡¯s key product is the ¡°Super Surge Protective Device¡± designed to protect electronic, electric and communication equipment against damage caused by lightning strikes or induction lighting. SurgeLAB¡¯s surge protector has a significantly higher protective threshold compared to other products, at less than 500V for 6KV/3KA 220V devices.
Traditional surge protectors using varistors are widely considered to be insufficient for complete protection, even by international governance organizations (IEEE 1100-2005).
SurgeLAB is the first company in the world to develop and commercialize gate control arrestors in surge protectors that provide the highest level of protection.
The company is also applying its core technology in electronics protection to develop other products and solutions such as electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) protection; line surge, noise and notch removal; and signal preservation technologies.
SurgeLAB exports its key products to the United States, Indonesia and Japan. The company received its NET certification in 2008, and in December of that year received functional certification for 56 products.
In 2009 the company signed an export deal amounting to $12.5 million following a visit by chairman of SPGS Co. George Ziegler who carried out a strict product test over eight days.
